Church Prayers and Intercessions

Church Prayers and Intercessions for Remembrance Sunday

Mr Alan Bayliss

Prayers Sunday 13 November 2016

The Lord makes wars to cease in all the world; he breaks the bow and shatters the spear asunder. We remember today, 0 Lord, all those who have died in any kind of war: soldiers who perished in the horror of battle, and householders buried beneath the rubble. Today we remember especially the victims of the two world wars; including those who were close to us, or to our parents or grandparents. We also remember those. who came home with terrible injuries, those who became mentally ill through the trauma of war, and those who lost someone they loved. Have mercy on us, Lord, for all the damage done to people by people in war, and strengthen those who are striving to bring peace in-our world now.

Lord in your mercy. Hear our prayer.

O God our Father, we pray for all who serve our country in the Navy, Army and Airforce. Grant that meeting danger with courage, and all occasions with discipline and loyalty, they may truly serve the cause of justice and peace, for the honour of your name.

Lord in your mercy. Hear our prayer.

Almighty God,our Heavenly Father, we pray for our Queen and the Royal Family, the members of Parliament and all in authority; that they may govern our country with wisdom and understanding and for the good of your church and all people.

Lord in your mercy. Hear our prayer.

We remember in our prayers the Scout and Guide movements, we pray for their leaders as they seek to be good role models for those they care for. O God, we place our young people in your hands. We ask not that you will shield
them from difficulty, but that you will give them the strength to face it; not that you will protect them from making mistakes, but that they may be able to learn from them; not that their lives will be easy. but that they will deal with its
challenges courageously. Be with them when they are vulnerable, protect them from lasting harm, and keep them always in your love.

Lord in your mercy. Hear our prayer

Merciful Father, help all who suffer pain of body, or grief of heart, to find in you their help. As Jesus suffered pain in his body, and healed it in others, help them to find their peace in him, and to be renewed in strength of body and mind; by your mercy.

Lord in your mercy. Hear our prayer

O God our Father, we pray for those whose life is saddened by the death of a relative or friend. Be with them in their loneliness and give them faith to look beyond their present trouble to Jesus, the one who died and rose again, and who lives for evermore.

Jesus Christ is the light of the world, a light which no darkness can quench. We remember before God those who have died and light a candle to sym bolise the liabt of Christ which eternally shines and brings hope. We remember:

They do not need the sun or the moon to shine on them, for the glory of God gives them light and tbe Lamb is their lamp. Merciful Father, accept these prayers for the sake of your Son, our Saviour Jesus Christ,

The Lord's Prayer.
